Math

June 8 -12     Week 10

Parents, feel free to take pictures of your child doing the activities or their completed work and email to their teacher!

Remember:  Please do what you can, but be flexible if it doesn't work.  If you notice that your child is struggling, try together, don't get frustrated and end with a smile.

Monday

$ Money  $

Can you find some coins around your house?   Have a look around?   Can you keep them safe in a jar as we learn more about money over the next few weeks?

Make a money book about your coins or print off ours

Tuesday

Math Games

Math game day is a classroom favorite - Maybe it will become one of yours at home learning favorites too!

Old Maid (Donkey)

Players: 3 or more

How to Play

Use a standard pack of cards with the Queen of Clubs removed, or buy a special set of Donkey or Old Maid cards. These are all the same game, just with different themes. Another option is to play with cards designed for Snap or Memory. Just remove one card from play so there is one card without a pair.

  1. Deal out all the cards one by one to each player.

  2. Players keep their hands secret but match up any pairs in their hand and place them facedown on the table. With a standard pack of cards, pairs are cards which are the same value and the same colour.

  3. The first player offers their cards to the next player on their left by spreading them out in a fan. The player chooses a card. If it matches a card in their hand, they place the pair on the table.

  4. The next player to the left takes a turn, and so on.

  5. Once a player has no cards left in their hand, they are out of the game. Play keeps going until one player is left with the single Queen of Spades or Old Maid or Donkey card. This player is the loser.

Collect items to sell in your store.  Organize them so that your buyer can find them, and might be interested in buying them

Collect some paper, a pen and scissors.  Cut the paper into tags.

Estimate how much each item would cost.

Write the price on the tag.

Helpful Hints:

  • For a challenge add varied cents (see photo)

  • Use round numbers ($4.00, $15.00) to make it easier

Use a “$” at the beginning of your amount.

Add at least one thing that you have created:

  • Art

  • Lego

  • Sculpture

Friday

Play Store

Now that the store is made, play out your store.  How much money do you have?   Can you buy anything?  Is there 1 thing that uses all your money?  How can you buy the most things?  Do you have any money left over?
